get to know your celebrant
it’s only fair I share a bit about me before asking you to do the same..You’re inviting me to one of the most meaningful days of your life,
Hi, I’m Alexis.
Blue Mountains dweller, music fanatic, new hobby starter-but-fast-abandoner, chronic Simpsons quoter (just the good seasons, you know the ones), and marriage celebrant!
I live in beautiful Springwood with my wonderful fiancé Liam and our two cats, Rudiger & Carol.
When I’m not making marriages, I’m making coffee at my local! I left a long career of retail management a couple of years back to take a chance on an unexpected role in hospitality.
It was a huge decision at the time but I’m so glad I made the jump. I love the connection I’ve built with my community, and there is an unimaginable amount you can learn about specialty coffee.. which is great for this knowledge sponge, cause when I’m into something I need to learn everything.
It was my love of music that got me started in retail, wanting to be with equally obsessed people talking, breathing, living and listening to music daily. Music’s still really special to me and holds a big part of my heart, and is probably the only topic I’d be remotely helpful at in your trivia team.
In my downtime you’ll find me at home, filter coffee brewing, listening to a record or podcast (either on music, true crime or coffee) and moving in sync with my cats; frequently snacking & following the sunny spots around the house.
When I’m out, I’m most likely at my local pilates studio, headed to a nearby walking track or cafe with Liam, trawling vintage stores for cool outfits or trinkets, or off on an increasingly rare (mountains life.. IYKYK) trip to the city to visit an art gallery, eat some good vegan food or catch a live music show.
a bit of pre-celebrant history
I worked in large scale retail management for over 15 years. A big part of my job for a long time was coaching my teams, sharing my knowledge to help them develop & grow and helping people find solutions to their problems.
A few years ago I took a few months off on some very overdue long service leave. My plan was to slow down for once and focus on me; very tricky for this people pleaser!
I reflected on myself, my values and how they lined up with my career. I began to wonder how I could work towards a change of pace that would better suit me, allowing me a more genuine level of fulfilment from helping people, without the underlying objective of always growing a business’ profits.
Over a coffee with Liam one day pondering my future, it kinda just popped into my brain and out of my mouth - “I could marry people!” and I landed on studying to be a marriage celebrant.
I really resonated with how celebrants can help couples create more meaningful, modern ceremonies that honour their relationship and individuality, while supporting, empowering and guiding them to have full ownership of the process.
..so why am I telling you all of this?
Because who I am and what I’ve done makes me.. me.
Retail and hospo management have been a hotbed of unpredictable yet organised chaos that’s honed me into a proactive, resilient, multi-tasking machine. I’m a triple checker, my attention to detail borders healthily on ‘perfectionist' and love the lil’ spike of serotonin from ticking off a good checklist.
But more important than my skillset, I care a lot, and I care deeply about everything I do. I’m physically incapable of not going above and beyond and I want that care to be used for good, for something that matters.
As a celebrant, being trusted to get to know you and your relationship to help get you married is a privilege. To truly understand you both and transform that knowledge into a day that makes you feel heard, encouraged, and genuinely celebrated is a responsibility I don’t take lightly.
